Blending Community and Hospitality

Boardwalk Place — Oak Island, NC

The challenge: Develop a design that harmoniously integrates with the coastal atmosphere and architectural elements of the Oak Island area, while prioritizing public access and minimizing disruptions for the local community.

In collaboration with Demarest Company Landscape Architects PLLC, we have devoted substantial efforts to the design of Boardwalk Place, an upcoming mixed-use hotel development in Oak Island, NC. The centerpiece of this endeavor will be a distinctive two story, coastal boutique hotel spanning over 50,000 square feet and will include the adjacent Boardwalk Place signature feature of a 1,000 foot long Wildlife Sanctuary Park Boardwalk with eight gazebos overlooking the pristine savannah of the Oak Island Davis Canal Wetlands.

The proposed hotel will contain 106 rooms encapsulating an inviting outdoor courtyard featuring a 1,800 sq. ft. swimming pool, a full service bar, a children's splash pad and cozy firepits. The development will also include a fine dining restaurant, retail and event space, complimenting the vibrant community atmosphere and stewardship of Oak Island.

Boardwalk Place has been thoughtfully designed to prioritize pedestrian accessibility and provide ample public access to inviting, memorable amenities offering a distinctive opportunities for visitors to observe and appreciate the thriving ecosystem through wildlife stations strategically positioned along the Wildlife Sanctuary Park Boardwalk. In addition to the provision of public parking on Third Place East, improvements will be made to sidewalks along Middleton Avenue, East Dolphin Drive, and Third Place East to ensure safe access for the public and Boardwalk Place visitors just a 350 foot stroll to the beach!
